Christina Pate, Mixed Media
My work is a commentary, a visual recording of my experience in the world. The materials I use are ones that deliver a message of vulnerability and childhood, destruction and repulsion, growth and perseverance, which are all aspects that reflect who I am. As my vocabulary of materials evolved so has my work. Initially my art dealt with creatures that were created out of animal skins. They were stitched back together to make them whole again, as a way to display the destructive nature of humans. Currently the creatures still remain apart of my work however, now the environment for these creatures have become the central component of my work. This new body of work is no longer about destruction; rather they are about security, home and the balance that most seek in their life.
